1980: Membership of club reduced to 10 and club was in danger of
folding, when break away club formed in Deal. Club picked up and Deal club
later folded after 3 years. Club built a dory.
1981: Reg Bell got a grant for the for 1st club compressor and also
for the fire escape.
1989: Club started to have Christmas/dinner dance at club house,
originally new members waited on the older members.
Club used to fund raise at Quex Po a 3 day event.
Boxing Day Splash, Ramsgate Harbour.
The 1st boxing day splash was an obstacle course. It then became a big
spectacle with hundreds of people watching. Other clubs also took part, ski
club, lifeboats. This has been going for about 40 years. In the early years
some big productions were arranged and money collected for
local orphanages/childrens homes.
Reg Bell arrived under water onto a pontoon in the harbour as Neptune, buddy
Bob Jefcoate waited underneath whilst Reg gave out presents, then Reg went
back into the water meet up with buddy.
1981/82: 2 teams as pirates and custom men threw soot and flour bombs
at each other. Gave presents to children then rowed out pretended to be
drunk and fall off boat then attacked by shark (before Jaws).
